The majority of the mixtape features original production but he also hops on a few recycled beats (Rick Ross and Max B to name a couple) to show his versatility. Verde Terrace features some of the best raps of the year, as Curren$y sticks to his expected subject matter over the subtle, laid-back production that is always present on any of his releases. He maintains more control over his music than any current rapper and has become known for skipping over the whole “record label” idea by recording albums and mixtapes with one or two of his own producers and releasing the final product via his twitter account. It would be difficult for anyone to name an artist more comfortable with his underground image than Curren$y. The only artist with two entries on this list comes in at #2 in addition to his previous appearance at #6. Unlike any album ever put out by The-Dream, however, there are a couple of tracks I would refer to as “throwaway” or “filler”, and that may have been the only thing keeping 1977 from being the best mixtape of 2011. On 1977 she provides a beautiful rendition of Deniece Williams’ 1981 hit “Silly” that fits nicely as an interlude in the middle of Nash’s project. The newest member of Terius’ Radio Killa Records is Casha, who many of you may know by her former affiliation with Yung Berg and her appearance on his hit “The Business”. In addition to the expected R&B style that Nash has mastered, one of the many highlights of the mixtape is a track that he doesn’t even appear on. He chose to release this under his government name of Terius Nash to, more than likely, sidestep label issues that would stem from "The-Dream" releasing an 11-song album free of charge. The first and only mixtape by an R&B artist on this list is a showcase of album quality songs by the musician we all know as The-Dream.
